Russia Blames Others for Its Own Actions

The Polish Ministry of Interior and Administration emphasises that "critical  thinking and verifying information sources are the best defence against fake news."  However, the internet in Poland is being flooded with Russian disinformation.

This time, they’ve fabricated a story about 20,000 NATO soldiers.

This warning relates to recent false claims circulating online about a “planned” attack in Poland by Ukraine – described as a supposed “false flag” operation in  which Ukrainians would allegedly carry out an attack but blame Russia.

According to the ministry “the dissemination pattern of this information indicates a  planned information operation. Its goal is always the same: to sever Ukraine’s  support from Poland and NATO countries—only the lies themselves change.”

A few days earlier , the ministry also cautioned against another Russian-linked  provocation. “A recording has appeared online containing false information – ‘Mass  evacuation and displacement of Poles in favour of foreigners from Israel and  Ukraine’ – regarding alleged government regulations,” it said. The video was  quickly identified as misleading and removed from the internet…

Interestingly, the American Institute for the Study of War (ISW) has recently  warned that Russian and Belarusian intelligence services may be preparing a “false  flag” operation aimed at sabotaging Polish critical infrastructure and attributing the  attack to Ukraine.

When asked about the ISW report, Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski stated, “A  ‘false flag’ operation is standard practice in the activities of Russian special  services.”

The Deputy Prime Minister has also pointed to the repeated violation of Polish  airspace by drones in September, saying the incidents were synchronised with a  disinformation campaign. Sikorski explained, “Please examine who participated in  or fell for this disinformation campaign—for example, which politicians suggested  these might have been Ukrainian drones. That’s exactly how it works: Russia  commits the act itself, then blames the victim of its aggression.”
