Russian media are routinely misleading their readers with fabricated stories alleging that Poland intends to annex western Ukrainian territory. Russian propagandists show little concern to make their claims appear believable – theysimply and shamelessly lie.
One such instance is a text published on the Moskovsky Komsomolets website, which “informs” that “Ukrainian citizens are being prepared for the annexation of part of their country by Poland.”
The Moscow media outlet lies, stating: “Ukrainian Telegram channels are raising the alarm: based on available information, Switlana Zinczuk, head of the Association of Polish Language Teachers of the Volyn Oblast, is morally preparing students for the incorporation of at least part of the country into
Poland.”
Russian propagandists further allege that Zinczuk distributed a map showing a ” hypothetical future region” of Volyn within the borders of the Republic of Poland to students of the Polish Institute at Lesya Ukrainka Volyn National University.
This claim is clearly a Russian fake. Svitlana Sukhareva, head of the Department of Polish Philology and Translation Studies at the Faculty of Philology and Journalism at Lesya Ukrainka Volyn National University, and a staff member at the Polish Institute, clarified to the Ukrainian agency Ukrinform that, “This is a forgery, and a very primitive one at that. The Polish Institute does not have students or pupils; it is not an educational institution – it’s simply three people coordinating academic activities related to Ukrainian- Polish studies at the university. Svitlana Zinczuk has no affiliation with the
institute and has never attended any meetings with students or pupils.
“Moskovsky Komsomolets” cited Ukrainian Telegram channel’s a popular messenger app in both Russia and Ukraine, as its source.
However, an investigation by Vot Tak, a Russian-language channel affiliated with Polish broadcaster TVP, found otherwise. As reported on their website:“After analysing the content of Ukrainian telegraph channels (using the TGStat service – ed.) which are supposedly raising the alarm, Vot Tak found not a single mention of Switlana Zinczuk in them in the last week, let alone her
appeals for part of Ukraine to be annexed to Poland.”
In an interview with VotTak, Sama Switłana Zinczuk herself strongly denied the Russian fabrications. “It’s a complete fake. I have never done anything like that, it never even crossed my mind,” she stated. She further added that she has no ties to the Volyn National University, clarifying that she has never worked or lectured there. ‘I used to work at a school, but now I’m retired. I am not
involved in any teaching activities. I only chair the Association of Polish Teachers,”; she emphasised.
