Donald Tusk: Spreading Russian Propaganda  and Disinformation Harms Poland

“Stupidity — let alone political views — should not be treated as a mitigating  circumstance,” Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk wrote on X.

He continued: “Spreading Russian propaganda and disinformation in the current  situation is an act detrimental to the Polish state, aimed directly at the security of  our homeland and its citizens. Stupidity, let alone political views, should not be  treated as a mitigating circumstance.”

“In times of danger, we must stand united. Those who exploit the Russian drone  attack to create divisions and spread disinformation are, at best, useful idiots of the  Kremlin,” commented Marcin Kierwiński, Poland’s Minister of the Interior and  Administration.

Both statements came after the intrusion of Russian drones into Polish airspace in  September 2025, which triggered a wave of misleading messages on social media —  many echoing Russian propaganda narratives, including false claims that the  incident was a Ukrainian provocation.

According to an analysis published by Poland’s Centre for Eastern Studies (OSW):  “The Russian side denies any involvement in the incidents and seeks to blame  Ukraine. By promoting the narrative that Kyiv aims to drag NATO neighbours into  war with the Russian Federation, Moscow is trying to discredit the Ukrainian  authorities and stoke anti-Ukrainian sentiment across Europe. The goal is to  destabilise internal situations in these countries and create public pressure on their  governments to halt political, economic, and especially military support for Ukraine  as it resists Russian aggression.”

Earlier, the Polish Ministry of Digital Affairs warned that Russian and Belarusian  information services are carrying out a coordinated disinformation campaign,  which is aimed, it said, to “shift responsibility for the violation of Polish airspace  onto Ukraine and discredit the actions of the Polish military and security services.”

Among the main disinformation narratives identified by the Polish Centre for Disinformation Analysis NASK, it is noted that “messages have appeared suggesting  that Ukraine is responsible for the violation of Polish airspace by drones. The  directing drones towards Poland is allegedly part of an effort to drag our country  into a war with Russia. Disinformation actors are focusing on the claim that  Ukraine deliberately failed to shoot down the drones while they were still in its  airspace.”

The drone incursions occurred on the night of September 9–10, 2025, when a dozen  Russian drones entered Polish airspace during air raids on targets in Ukraine.  Polish air forces, in coordination with NATO allies, intercepted and shot down  several of them.
